House of Bricks | Everyone Is a Planner

Title: Everyone Is a Planner
Series: House of Bricks
Date: 10/16/2011
Speaker: Tim T. Jones

Everyone is a planner, some ahead of time and some in the last minute, but we all live our life in a plan. The topic James brings up is do we include God not only in the planning process but also in the goal making for our days. Leaving our plan to step into His plan is all of our struggle, James is helping his church move in this direction.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) – Three Ways to Get Involved!

This year for OCC we have ways people can get involved.  The first way is to donate items we can use at our packing party on October 30th to pack shoeboxes. We need school supplies, personal hygiene items, toys, and hard candy for boys and girls from age 2-14.Bulk items like packs of soap or bags of toys will be opened and split between several boxes.   At our packing party the kids and their parents will work together to choose from all the donated items and make a box for a child.  It’s a fun time with food and fellowship as the kids serve other kids. We will also accept donations of money to help purchase additional supplies or cover the cost ($7 per box) or shipping and shoeboxes either plastic or cardboard.

The second way to get involved is to attend the packing party.  It will be help on October 30th from 2pm-4pm in the Children’s Education building.  We’ll have music, food, and of course items to pack.  This event is not limited to families, anyone can attend.  We’ll watch a video about OCC to help the kids understand why they are packing the boxes, pack and decorate the boxes, and then pray for the boxes and the kids that they will go to.

If you are unable to attend to the packing party we have a third option.  We will have shoeboxes and instructions available in the back of church every Sunday that you can take home and pack yourself.  Spend some time praying about the child your box could go to and then have fun choosing items that will bring them joy when they open the box.  We ask that all boxes packed at home be returned to Fusion by Sunday Nov 6th.

Once we have collected all the boxes we will deliver them to Chick-Fil-A for their collection event where they give us a coupon for a free sandwich for every box we turn it.  We give these coupons to Colleen Smith to use in her ministry in Baltimore.  We also get special barcodes for the boxes that give us an update as to what country our boxes went to to allow the kids to follow-up on the project.

We hope that everyone in Fusion is excited about OCC and will get involved in some way, if not all three ways.

House of Bricks | Fix My Church

Title: Fix My Church
Series: House of Bricks
Date: 10/9/2011
Speaker: Tim T. Jones

The church hit a major wall and were in the midst of total confusion as James instructs them both on the damage “pride” can cause and the solution of “humility” to solve conflict within a church.  He paints a clear picture of the deep whole we can dig with the shovel called pride and he spells out the solution to use the ladder of “humility” to get out and stay out of such a whole.

House of Bricks | Got Wisdom?

Title: Got Wisdom?
Series: House of Bricks
Date: 10/2/2011
Speaker: Tim T. Jones

Like faith we all go someplace as a source of our wisdom.  James is very clear to those he shepherds that there are many sources but only one source that has been proven as TRUE.  He warns them that our natural tendencies will be always to follow earthly, man made, wisdom which will end in jealousy and selfishness.  James’ hope would be that those who chose at one time in their life to follow Jesus would choose again the Wisdom that comes from above.  God wishes the same for us. . .

House of Bricks | Tongue Trouble

Title: Tongue Trouble
Series: House of Bricks
Date: 9/25/2011
Speaker: Tim T. Jones

I love how James is so real, when talking about the problems with our tongue, he uses the word “we” twice.  He does not exclude himself, he is like all of us who are amazed at what our tongue is capable of saying.  This is a challenging passage that we should lose count on how many times we’ve read it, but need reminded to take an internal look and ask God to reveal our darkness.
