Operation Christmas Child (OCC) – Three Ways to Get Involved!

This year for OCC we have ways people can get involved. The first way is to donate items we can use at our packing party on October 30th to pack shoeboxes. We need school supplies, personal hygiene items, toys, and hard candy for boys and girls from age 2-14.Bulk items like packs of soap or bags of toys will be opened and split between several boxes. At our packing party the kids and their parents will work together to choose from all the donated items and make a box for a child. It’s a fun time with food and fellowship as the kids serve other kids. We will also accept donations of money to help purchase additional supplies or cover the cost ($7 per box) or shipping and shoeboxes either plastic or cardboard.

The second way to get involved is to attend the packing party. It will be help on October 30th from 2pm-4pm in the Children’s Education building. We’ll have music, food, and of course items to pack. This event is not limited to families, anyone can attend. We’ll watch a video about OCC to help the kids understand why they are packing the boxes, pack and decorate the boxes, and then pray for the boxes and the kids that they will go to.

If you are unable to attend to the packing party we have a third option. We will have shoeboxes and instructions available in the back of church every Sunday that you can take home and pack yourself. Spend some time praying about the child your box could go to and then have fun choosing items that will bring them joy when they open the box. We ask that all boxes packed at home be returned to Fusion by Sunday Nov 6th.

Once we have collected all the boxes we will deliver them to Chick-Fil-A for their collection event where they give us a coupon for a free sandwich for every box we turn it. We give these coupons to Colleen Smith to use in her ministry in Baltimore. We also get special barcodes for the boxes that give us an update as to what country our boxes went to to allow the kids to follow-up on the project.

We hope that everyone in Fusion is excited about OCC and will get involved in some way, if not all three ways.

Memory Verse: Every word of God is perfect. Proverbs 30:5

Scripture Reference: Jonah 1-2

Bible Story: This week, take the lead in teaching your child the story of Jonah running away from God because he didn’t want to obey. Read Jonah 1-2 in your own Bible before telling the story to your child from a children’s Bible. Discuss how we cannot hide from God, because God is always with us. Jonah disobeyed God, but God protected him inside the fish until Jonah had a change of heart. God was patient with Jonah, just like he was patient with the people of Nineveh. God’s way is always the best way.

Family Activity – Fishy Fishy: Discuss with your child how Jonah learned to obey God while he was in the fish, although it would have been better for him if he had obeyed right away. Create simple fish shapes on a piece of paper, have your child color them, then cut the out. Every time your child obeys you during the week, place a fish on your refrigerator (or a premade chart). Set a goal for a certain number of fish to put up, the reward your child at the end of the week if that goal is attained.

Family Activity – Manna in the Morning: Sprinkle cotton balls on the floor of your child’s bedroom and leave a small bowl nearby. Each cotton ball represents one piece of manna. Some morning this week, have your child gather one cotton ball for each meal and snack time of that day. Have your child give you one piece of “Manna” in exchange for each meal or snack. By the end of the day, all the manna should gone. Remind your child that God meets our needs one day at a time.

Welcome to the Fusion Kidz Garden Newsletter

We had a great week at the fall festival last Sunday! Thanks to everyone who came out and helped and had a great time!

Two weeks ago we had our first week with the Boz curriculum and it went over fabulously. I hope your kids enjoyed the lessons and activities. Your child should have brought home a bag they decorated filled with their craft and other important information. Please make sure you get your child’s bag each week. They will have the Home Link portion of our curriculum (described below) as well as other information for your family.

The Bible story this week was 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 1 John 5:13. These passages teach the children that what we read in the Bible is God’s word. And that he gave us these words to help us learn and grow in our relationship with him. Spend some time with your child looking through your Bible and tell them about some of your favorite stories.

If your child is in the Elementary class and has their own Bible we encourage them to bring it with them on Sunday. We will be reading out of the Bible each week and learning how to find passages in the Bible.

Memory Verse: I will obey your word. Psalm 119:17

Bible Story: Although the Israelites got the walls rebuilt, their lives still lay in ruin. The only thing that could rebuild their lives was the Word of God. Daily, Ezra read God’s Word to the people. It helped strengthen and encourage them during this difficult time. Let your child know that God’s Word will do the same for us today as we take time to listen to it.

Family Activity – Time to Build: Work together with your child on a building project. Use building bricks, logs, or rocks to construct walls. Discuss what a hard job it must have been for the Israelites to build their walls without construction tools and vehicles we have today. Talk about how God’s Word can help us when we face a tough task because it gives us wisdom and encouragement and reminds us how great God is.

Our Summer program is finished. Last Sunday we got all the kids together and talked about Noah and God’s promise to him.

This week we’re excited to start our new curriculum. We’ll be talking about the Bible for the first unit and how we can use it to learn about God.

Take out your Bible and talk about it with your child. Show them the different sections and names of the books. Talk about how people in different countries read the Bible too.

Our new curriculum for the year is based off of the popular children’s character Boz. The Preschool class uses the popular character Boz to help kids learn more about God and His love for them. Our older children will be reading directly out of the Bible and hearing the same stories as the younger kids, but on their level. All the classes will continue to use stories, games, drama, songs, arts & crafts, and discussion to engage all of the children.
