Kidz Garden Newsletter – 1/19/2010

Theme of the Week:

God is perfect, so we are brave for him

Joshua 1:1-18

Welcome to the Fusion Kidz Garden Newsletter

We hope your family is enjoying the snow and staying safe and warm. We missed seeing you on Sunday but had a great time playing with our families. The lesson for Sunday would have been the story of Joshua leading Israel. The Bible story repeats several times “be strong and courageous” and had the children act out parts of the Bible story as it was read. See below for the script that would have been used. Talk to your child about times they’ve felt scared and times you’ve felt scared. Tell them that all those times God was with them. When we know we aren’t alone it’s easier to be brave.

Bible Lesson:

Open your Bible to Joshua 1, and show it to your children.

SAY: The Bible is God’s special book. We’re going to hear about a man in the Bible named Joshua. Joshua was a very brave man. God asked Joshua to take over leading the Israelites after Moses died. Let’s hear what God said to Joshua when he was going to be the new leader.

Read Joshua 1:3. Have your children take three steps forward and plant their feet firmly

Read Joshua 1:4. Have your children walk in a circle around the room to show that God would give the Israelites all the land.

Read Joshua 1:5. Have your children fall down and then stand up.

Read Joshua 1:6. Have your children make muscles.

Read Joshua 1:7. Have them turn to the right and left and then stop and look straight forward.

Read Joshua 1:8. Have your children pass the Bible around and look at the words

Read Joshua 1:9. Have your children make sad faces and then grin and point up.

Buzz at Home

If you haven’t gotten your cards yet or can’t find this week’s here is a summary of this week’s card:

This week, your child learned about God telling Joshua to lead the people across the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Joshua learned -> God is perfect, so we are brave for him. Encourage your child to tell you about what God said to Joshua.

Try doing some things with the Smile Ball that seem impossible, such as balancing it on your head or balancing it on your back while crawling. Discuss how those things are hard to do. Then form pairs, and have partners help each other by taking turns holding the ball for one another as they again try to do the impossible tasks.

Read Joshua 1:9. Remind family members that just as you helped each other do hard things with the Smile Ball, God is with you and helps you when you have to do hard or scary things. Talk about times you feel afraid or discouraged and how you can remember to be brave for God in those times.

We’ve Got Your Badges

Your permanent family name tags have arrived. Please pick them up in the hallway before service. After you have picked up all your children please leave all of your name tags in a classroom with the teacher. This way we can make sure none get lost or accidentally taken home. And remember if you are unable to pick up your children when service ends you can give your name tag to a friend and they can get your children. For security purposes they will need your tag to pick up your children.

Welcome To The Garden

Kidz Garden Newsletter – 1/19/2010

Your little ones are like seeds, ready to grow and become beautiful plants. All they need is some good soil, water, and of course sun. Your family provides the soil for their little roots to take hold in. We hope to work with you to provide water, the Word of God, to nourish them and help them feel the light of the Son.

Watering Can: You’re a Star

It can be hard to be brave sometimes, but when we encourage each other it gets easier. God told Joshua to be “Strong and courageous” many times to make him feel more confident. Cut out some large stars out of paper. Decorate them and write nice things about other people on them. When you’re finished give the person the star you made for them. Tell them “I think you’re a star and can do anything God asks you to!”

Looking Ahead

Next Sunday’s lesson is Deborah’s battle from Judges 4:1-24. The lesson focuses on trusting God’s plan.

Love the Lord

by Lincoln Brewster

We are teaching the kids a new worship song as part of our vision to help them grow in their faith. We are using ASL signs to make the song even more fun for them. If you’d like to practice at home here are the signs: Love – Cross arms across chest Lord – Make an “L” with your right hand, touch it to your left shoulder then drag it down your torso to your right hip. Heart – Draw a heart using your 2 middle fingers on your chest Soul – on both hands put your thumb and pointer together like pinching. Put all 4 fingers together right hand over left. Keeping fingers pinched move the right hand up into the air like a ghost or smoke Mind – Tap your temple twice with right pointer finger Strength – Make muscles with both arms and closed fists Serve – Both hands open palms facing up and waist height. Shuffle hands back and forth like pacing out plates Praise – Right pointer finger at mouth comes down and around to left hand and claps twice Trust – Both hands open facing body, right above left. Close hands like grabbing onto a rope.
